Istraživanje je pokazalo da je učešće dva većinska naroda, hrvatskog i srpskog, u ukupnom stanovništvu ove slavonske subregije, bio relativno uravnotežen sve do 1991. godine. Prema popisu stanovništva iz 1991. godine broj stanovnika srpske narodnosne pripadnosti ove subregije iznosio je 77.761, dok je popis 2011. godine registrirao svega 40.356 stanovnika ovog etnikuma, dakle manje za 37.405 stanovnika, a trend smanjivanja srpskog stanovništva i nakon recentnog rata i dalje traje.
